Students headed to US are mainly for Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctorate programs, few certificate programs and vocational training programs.

Education System:

Bachelor’s programs are of four year duration, Master’s programs are of one to two year duration and doctorate programs of four years duration. However a few universities offer an Integrated PhD which reduces one year and can be completed in five years.

You are required to pay the Visa processing fee at the HDFC bank, fill up the DS-160 application and submit upon which you will get a confirmation number required to book a visa interview at the American Consulate. On the day of interview you will need to carry all these documents along with you original passport, I-20, SEVIS receipt, Academic documents, financial papers, etc.

Accommodation:

Accommodation for students in UK is generally are in apartments close to the universities. Student’s live in shared accommodation to reduce the living expenses. The apartments are furnished with basic amenities like fridge, microwave oven, cooking stove, water supply and electricity. Student’s sometimes choose to live in bigger cities even if they are away from the universities and commute every day.

Visa:

Adult students who want to study in the UK now need to apply under the Tier 4 (General) category visa. Tier 4 (General) category visa falls under the point-based system. A total of 40 points is required for an applicant to be eligible for a student visa. 30 points are awarded for having a valid CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) issued by a Tier 4 sponsor (university). 10 points is awarded for having enough money to cover course fees and living expenses.

The student has to complete an online visa application and book an appointment at the regional UK VFS office to submit the hard copy of the application along with the supporting documents. It may take up to 3 weeks for the application to be processed by the British High Commission.
